Maritza Esquivel

Maritza Esquivel landed a job with the House of Blues in Anaheim thanks to the employment skill-building program provided by YES and Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Orange County.

YES volunteers and corporate volunteers from Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Orange County partnered to help facilitate workshops at five corporate partner sites throughout Orange County, preparing over 70 youth with pre-employment skills. Included were Employment Skills Workshops, Mock Interviews, and Resume Workshops.

While at the BUNZL site for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Orange County, we had the privilege of meeting Maritza Esquivel, a junior at Katella High School. With the help of her BUNZL mentor, Jenny Vu, and the YES workshop series, Maritza created her first resume, practiced interviewing, and learned basic employment skills that helped her land a job with the new House of Blues location in Anaheim.

During the interview, the Anaheim House of Blues was impressed by the 16-year-old’s professional resume as well as her maturity. When Maritza found out she got the job, she was ecstatic! She is so thankful for having the opportunity to learn from these workshops which prepared her to confidently take the next step on her path to a successful future.
