May didn’t just bring new flowers, but it also brought new jobs! Youth Employment Service (YES) held its Spring Job Fair on May 4th and it was quite the success! With over 40 YES clients and 11 Employer Partners in attendance, the Star Wars themed job fair served as a great way to connect clients and employers.
As YES continues to expand its program offsite, it’s also expanding its partnerships with local employers, offering YES clients a greater variety of employment opportunities. While preparing for the Spring job fair, YES established a new Employer Partnership with Naturally Newport, a small boutique in Balboa Village offering lifestyle clothing and fun souvenirs for out-of-town visitors. Thanks to the referral made from Estancia High School, Michelle, the store owner, joined many other employers at the Spring Job Fair, allowing her to meet many of the YES candidates who had recently completed the program and in search of Summer jobs.
One of the YES clients that made a great first impression on Michelle was 17-year-old Arely. Arely had completed the YES program through a partnership with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Orange County and attended the Spring Job Fair in search of a summer job. After their initial meeting, Arely and Michelle setup a job interview and within a week, Arely was offered the job at Naturally Newport!
When speaking about her newest employee, Michelle shared, “She’s doing a great job and is very focused. She wants to do everything correctly, so I appreciate that. She’s an awesome employee! I’m thankful for your organization that was referred to me by Estancia High School. It was a great help!”
Arely joins the 10 other YES candidates that were hired within the month through connections made at the Spring Job Fair.
YES holds two job fairs a year – the next Fall Job Fair will take place on Thursday, October 12th, to connect employers and YES graduates in search of holiday employment.
