Then
Aisha, an 18 year-old from Huntington Beach, came to YES in January of 2012. At the time she was taking adult education classes only 12 hours a week and did not have a job.
Now
Aisha is working as a sales person at Sunglass Hut. Her supervisor loves her! She now works 30 hours a week, is taking more classes than before at adult school, and is on track to earn her high school diploma.
We asked Aisha how the support provided by YES had changed her life
“The classes at YES were a huge help. When I took the finance class, I had just opened a bank account so it was really helpful for me to learn about what to do with my money. YES hasn’t just helped me, but it has helped my brother David (also in the program) as well, and in turn my whole family. David is now working for UPS and thanks to YES, so we’re both able to help my mom pay the bills. There are now three incomes in the house instead of just one! I was also able to buy my mom a Christmas present this year with my own money, which was a first! Most of the money from every paycheck I get goes into savings. I am planning to buy a car.”
